How do I print handwriting paper?

Which line spacing is right for each grade?
Handwriting paper gets narrower as motor control improves. These are the spacings US classrooms and occupational therapists commonly move through, and they are exactly the four presets in the generator:

If a child finds a size frustrating, go one step bigger — spacing that is too tight forces cramped letters and undoes the practice. There is no rush: the goal is correct letter formation, and the row height should follow the child, not the calendar.
Three-line guides or single lines?
Three-line guides are the classic K-2 teaching format: a top line, a dashed midline, and a bottom writing line. The midline shows where small letters stop and where tall letters pass through, so proportion is built into the paper itself. Use it for any child still learning where letters live on the line.
Single lines are plain ruled writing lines with generous spacing — the bridge between guided practice and normal notebook paper. They suit third graders and up, spelling practice, journaling, or any exercise where the letter shapes are already solid and the child just needs room to write.
Whichever you pick, the sheet stays plain black and white: dark header text, light-gray lines, no decorations to distract from the writing — and nothing that wastes ink on a home printer.
Why a generator instead of a stack of PDFs?
Printable-paper sites give you a fixed gallery: wide ruled, college ruled, maybe one kindergarten template if you are lucky. But handwriting paper is not one thing — the right sheet depends on the child's age, whether they still need the midline, and whether the teacher wants a name line at the top. A generator turns those decisions into three clicks instead of a search through someone else's filing system.
It also means every combination exists. Single lines at kindergarten spacing for a child who hates the midline? Three-line guides at 1/2" for a fourth grader tidying up their handwriting? Is this handwriting paper really free?

What line spacings can I choose?
Four presets that match how US classrooms progress: 1" for PreK and Kindergarten, 3/4" for Grade 1, 5/8" for Grade 2, and 1/2" for Grade 3 and up. Each is one click — no measuring or custom setup needed.
What is the dashed middle line for?
The dashed midline marks the height of small letters like a, c and e — half the height of the writing row. It teaches letter proportion: tall letters reach the top line, small letters stop at the midline, and everything sits on the bottom line.
What paper size does it print on?
US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), in plain black and white. The guide lines print light gray so they are easy to write over and cheap to print — no ink-heavy backgrounds or borders.
Can I print paper without the name and date header?
Yes — untick the Name & Date option and the writing lines fill the full page instead. Depending on the spacing you picked, that can fit an extra writing row.
How is this different from wide ruled or college ruled notebook paper?
Notebook paper is made for note-taking: single lines spaced 9/32" to 11/32" apart, far too tight for a child learning letter formation. Handwriting paper uses taller rows with a dashed midline so young writers have room to build each letter correctly.
